Rep. Sykes Hosts OH-13 Healthy Communities Grants Webinar With USDA
Webinar connects local governments and organizations to federal funding opportunities to improve the health of our communities
AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) hosted an OH-13 Healthy Communities Grants Webinar. The event brought together local governments, health professionals, non-profits, and the private sector in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to learn about federal funding opportunities and how to access additional federal resources to keep our communities healthy and secure for the future. Rep. Sykes was joined by Sean Potts, Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production; Cheryl Rice, Regional Conservation Partnership Program and Conservation Innovative Grants Program Manager; and Will Cook, Urban Conservationist.
"I hosted this webinar to connect our local governments and agriculture organizations to federal funding opportunities that will help ensure everyone in our district has access to healthy, nutritious foods, many of which are grown right here in Ohio. Agriculture is a driving force in our state’s economy, and these funding opportunities will help local farms and agriculture producers receive the funding they need to thrive,” said Rep. Sykes
“The Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production’s programs are already having a tremendous impact in Northeast OH and we’re grateful for the opportunity to further that momentum,” said Sean Potts, Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production.
The webinar provided an overview of funding opportunities and deadlines for various grant opportunities for urban farmers and urban agriculture, food coalitions and food security, and maternal and infant mortality and nutrition.
